DUOS Festival Returns to Kilifi!

The Giriama are again a focus of the second of DUOS Festival, which takes Mijikenda warrior Mekatilili wa Menza as its Honorary Patroness. Eight Polish and Kenyan duos are spending the month of August in Kilifi, creating the works that will be presented both in Kenya and in Poland. These female duos include poets, musicians, dancers, photographers, and craftswomen, who will showcase the heritage left by Mekatilili and the essence of sisterhood using art and culture as sources for female empowerment. They are working in places around Kilifi town to exchange knowledge and develop their projects with students and members of local community.

The two days of presentations include studio visits, an open-air cinema, concerts, performances, and games and activities for children. Guided tours also will be conducted and artists and performers will be available to discuss their practices and works.
