New art collective between Nairobi and Mombasa

On February 1st, 2024, the Italian team of the TPAAE visited a new art collective in Mombasa. “Africa Nomads Art Space” is a collective of seven artists who organise thematic exhibitions and workshops for young people and adults, bringing to life a city in search of new cultural resources beyond tourist art, curio shops and Swahili enchantment. The painter Raphael Muchomba is the creator of an interesting series dedicated to urban life in Mombasa. On February 7th, 2024, the Italian team visited the “Brush tu” collective in Nairobi, located in the same area as the important Buruburu Institute of Fine Art (Bifa). This collective is made up of 12 artists and promotes residencies for artists, organises workshops for adults and produces murals. On the same day, the team had the opportunity to meet some representatives of the Muumba Collective from Kampala, Uganda, with whom it will be possible to plan future activities and projects.
