Dr. Gladwell Mbugua (PhD), is the Chairperson in the Department of Fashion Design and Marketing at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya. Currently, she heads a team of 10 faculty members and 15 support staff, with a student population of 300 students.
Dr Mbugua holds a Phd and Msc in Fashion Design and Marketing from Kenyatta University, Bsc in Clothing Textile and Interior Design from Egerton University, and Diploma in Technical Education from Kenya Technical Teachers College, Nairobi.
Dr. Mbugua has been a lecturer in the department of Fashion Design and Marketing since 2010. Prior to joining Kenyatta University, she worked as a lecturer at Kenya Technical Teachers College and Rift Valley Institute of Science Technology between 2005-2010 and 1991 to 2004, respectively.
She is also a researcher with interests in textile science, fashion design, garment making, and interior design. During her career, she has presented academic papers in both national and international conferences as well as publishing several papers. Dr. Mbugua is a scholar who seeks to create an intersection between fashion and the arts, by equipping students with skills and knowledge in aesthetic, sustainable, and innovative fashion products that meet customer and industry needs. Dr. Mbugua endeavors to develop synergies and partnerships with scholars in other institutions to ensure that the Fashion Design and Marketing Department is a frontrunner in equipping students with relevant current skills and knowledge required in the Fashion Design and Marketing industry.
