Kenyan Artists selected for the third edition of the DUOS Festival helped to raise the profile of the TPAAE project in Kenya’s second-largest city when they took part in the Mombasa International Show in early November. Staged on the campus of the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM), a TPAAE partner institution, the week-long event featured works and performances by artists that will team with Polish partners to create works in Kilifi in the New Year.
Locally based painter and illustrator Joseph Allan Green and poet Philip Tangara, a TUM student, participated in the annual show organized by the Agricultural Society of Kenya. Along with Caroline Ngorobi and Jonathan Mbinga, they will work with create works for the DUOS Festival on the theme of Social Ecology. That event takes place at Pwani University in Kilifi in February 2023.
The DUOS artists are affiliated with TUM under the TPAAE Consortium, Students at the university also displayed projects in their fields of study, claiming a trophy for the institution during the event that ran from November 2-6.
Dr. Michael Saulo and Dr. Wanyenda Leonard Chilimo, the TPAAE Coordinator at TUM, held meetings with Prof. Peter B. Gichangi, a deputy vice-chancellor in charge of Academics and Research at TUM, and Mr. Simon Mbaru, the director of Arts and Culture for the County Government of Mombasa. The dignitaries met with artists and TPAAE team members to explore areas of further cooperation with the TUM community and country government..
The TPAAE project is sponsored by European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No 872718.Along with TUM, the project consortium includes the Academy of Art in Szczecin (Poland – coordinator), Univesita di Macerata (Italy), the National Museum in Szczecin (Poland), Pwani University (Kenya) and Kenyatta University (Kenya).
