Anidan Shelter and art education in Lamu

On February 25th, 2024, the Italian TPAAE team visited the Anidan Shelter on Lamu Island, where an amazing art programme is run by artist and educator Corrie Wingate, artist Satan, and art teacher Laura Mwani. The institution provides art education for orphans and each year invites major artists from Nairobi for a monthly residency. During these periods, the protagonists of the Kenyan artistic mainstream teach the young students how to make art. Among the artists who have visited the institution are Anne Mwiti, Allan Kioko (Think), and Chelwek. Think and Chelwek have left very interesting murals on the walls of the institution.
