Technical University of Mombasa delegation led by Dr. Wanyenda Chilimo, Professor Michael J. Saulo, and Mr. Victor K. Mwanza made their last secondment to Szczecin Poland from 29th April to 30th June 2024. At the Academy of Arts in Szczecin (AA), the team held several meetings with main Coordinator Prof. Aleksandra Łukaszewicz, staff at the Department of Experimental Film, as well as the Vice-Rector for Artistic and Scientific Affairs Dr. Mikolaj Iwanski. The team sought further collaboration with AA beyond TPAAE with the view of sustaining the LampArt Short Film Festival and making it an annual event in Mombasa.
The team further participated in various artistic and educational activities organized by the National Museum in Szczecin including the PhD. student Emilia Łapko Exhibition opening at the NMS “Artificial paradises: Hybridity in fashion photography” and Dorota Podlaska exhibition at TRAFO. Others include visits to the Second World War Museum in Gdańsk. In Berlin, the team visited Checkpoint Charlie Museum, Berlin Art Market, SAVVY Contemporary-the Laboratory of Form-Ideas, and KW Institute for Contemporary Art.
To forge further collaboration with European Universities for the internationalization of the course offered by the newly founded Institute of Maritime Studies at TUM, the team visited two premier nautical academies in Poland: The Maritime University in Szczecin and Gdynia Maritime University tucked along the Baltic coast in the historic shipbuilding city of Gdynia.
While at Gdynia University the team accompanied by the Ms. Ewa Łukaszewicz – Chair, Z-N-S Foundation held a successful meeting with Prof. Sambor Guze – Deputy Rector for Education, Prof. Tomasz Tarasiuk – Deputy Rector for Cooperation and Development. The Authorities at Gdynia Maritime University expressed their willingness to partner and collaborate with the Technical University of Mombasa in the area of teaching and research for the mutual benefit of the two institutions
At the Maritime University in Szczecin, discussions were held on scientific collaboration as well as staff and student exchanges under the Erasmus program. The team visited the faculty of Marine Engineering where they had a meeting with Vice Dean for Education Prof. Jan Drzewieniecki and Vice Dean for Science Prof. Leszek Chybowski from the Faculty of Economics and Transport Engineering (FETE); the team had a meeting with Prof. Stanisław Iwan, Dean Faculty of Economics and Transport Engineering (FETE) Prof. Izabela Kotowska, Vice Dean FETE and Dr. Eng Tomasz Dudek, Vice Dean for Education, FETE, Maritime University of Szczecin.
In a spirit of collocation between the two institutions FETE invited the delegation from TUM to participate in the 6th Edition of an International Conference on Green Logistics for Greener Cities, which took place from 22nd – 24th of May 2024 at Techno-Park, Szczecin
The team further visited the library of the Maritime University of Szczecin to exchange good practices with colleagues, and benchmark on e-resources and academic databases for Maritime Studies.
