Oyugi Isaiah
Oyugi Isaiah,PhD. An educator, researcher in Music and Education, and a performer in choral music. He holds a Bachelor of Education (Arts) degree, Master of Music Education, and a PhD in Musicology.
He has over 15 years of teaching experience at the university as a graduate assistant, tutorial fellow, and lecturer. Dr. Oyugi is a passionate performer, composer, arranger, conductor, and trainer of choral music for various levels and institutions. He is also an adjudicator at the Kenya Music Festivals and many other local and regional festivals. He is the Director of Kenyatta University students’ choir, a position that he has held since 2006 and has posted great success with the choir. Dr. Oyugi has held several administrative positions at Kenyatta University and in other organizations. He is the current Head of Department of Music and Dance at Kenyatta University, since May 2017. Before his appointment to this current position, he was the coordinator of University Entertainment for over five years. He also serves in several committees in the University including the Kenyatta University Culture Week Organizing Committee, and Committee on National Values and Governance, among others. He is also a member of the steering committee of Anglican Church Choirs, in the Diocese of Nairobi. He is a mentor with the university mentorship program. He is passionate in sharing and disseminating knowledge to students in the university and elsewhere through classroom teaching, workshops, and conferences. He is a champion in inspiring students and teachers who are already in the profession to build on their profession by way of further studies. He does this through active outreach programs, maintaining close contacts with former students, and by campaigning for easy process of admission to graduate programs, sourcing for scholarships through collaborations with other institutions locally and abroad, and sourcing for incentives for graduate students.
